Emergency railway embankment repairs, Umlazi Line (PRASA)

Emergency repairs to the railway embankment on the Umlazi Line between Zwelethu and Kwamnyandu stations. The work comprises retaining wall construction, excavation, shoring, hand screening, ballast laying, and lifting/packing operations. Bidders must demonstrate relevant experience with at least one completed retaining wall project within the last ten years, supported by client reference letters. The scope includes site establishment, health and safety compliance, and a preliminary programme. Work must be completed by a team comprising one civil engineer (diploma/BSc/BEng), one trackmaster holding a valid C-green certificate, and two flagmen with valid certificates. The contract requires fixed pricing in South African Rand inclusive of all applicable taxes. Validity of quotation is 60 working days from the closing date (26 October 2026). Compulsory site briefing/briefing session attendance is required on 19 October 2026 at 10h00 at PRASA Offices, 65 Masabalala Yengwa Avenue, Greyville, Durban. The evaluation process comprises three stages: Stage 1A (mandatory compliance), Stage 1B (other mandatory requirements including COIDA letter of good standing, valid SARS PIN, and CSD registration), and Stage 2 (technical/functionality evaluation on organisational experience, personnel qualifications, and methodology, with an 80% minimum threshold). Stage 3 applies price and specific goals using an 80/20 preference point system.
