The Eastern Cape Department of Education is establishing a prequalified panel of general building contractors for a three-year period. Contractors will be invited to submit tenders on an as-needed basis for construction services across education facilities in the Eastern Cape Province, including maintenance, repairs, alterations, upgrades, and new Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, as well as emergency procurement works. The scope encompasses general building works as defined by CIDB—development, extension, installation, renewal, renovation, alteration, or dismantling of permanent shelter for domestic, industrial, institutional or commercial occupancies. A comprehensive scope of work will be shared on a per-project basis as required. Shortlisted contractors must be capable of responding urgently to department requirements within limited timeframes. Contractors admitted to the database will be categorised by CIDB grade (2GB through 9GB) and managed according to CIDB Regulations and the department's Supply Chain Management Policy. The prequalification process is not a commitment to appoint any contractor; selection will occur project-by-project according to departmental policy.
